This public hearing aimed to identify the shortcomings encountered during the external audit of municipalities, review the findings and implementation of recommendations by the Municipalities and to see the possibilities of further improving of the audit process as a whole. This is the first time that the legislative oversees the expenses of local level.
Municipal representatives described the external audit by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), as highly professional, but not the one done by private companies contracted by the OAG. Participants generally agreed that there should be better communication between OAG and the municipalities, especially regarding the comments of the latter.
Present at the public hearing were the mayors of Kosovo, representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Local Government Administration, the Office of the Auditor General, The Association of Municipalities of Kosovo, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the European Commission and the civil society.
The public hearing was organized as part of KIPRED activities in support of Oversight Committee on Public Finance in the Assembly of Kosovo, supported by DFID.
